HG The Origin #26 RX-78-02 Gundam Origin Version

The RX-78-02 Gundam is the furthest advancement of the Earth Federation’s Operation V initiative to create Mobile Suits powerful enough to defeat the Principality of Zeon’s army of Zaku Mobile Suits. The RX-78-02 Gundam Prototype was precisely the answer the Earth Federation was looking for, as it quickly proved itself technologically superior to the mass production MS-06 Zaku II. The RX-78-2’s special Luna Titanium Alloy armor made it almost impervious to incoming ballistic fire without weighing down the Mobile Suit. At the time, the RX-78-02 Gundam was one of the most offensively capable Mobile Suits ever built, as its robust powerplant granted the RX-78-02 Gundam access to an array of beam-based weaponry. Before the RX-78-2 Gundam’s creation, beam weapons had only made their way onto the large space battleships of the Earth Federation and Zeon.

Articulation –

The HGGTO RX-78-02 Gundam is a fully featured High Grade model kit that incorporates internal frame components and hollow armor parts, all supported by an array of polycaps. This model features double-jointed limbs and swiveling thighs, providing a wide range of motion to create dynamic poses. Builders have the option of assembling the HGGTO RX-78-02 Gundam into the Early Type configuration, featuring a shoulder-mounted cannon and a wrist-mounted Gatling gun. Alternatively, builders can choose to construct the Middle Type RX-78-02 Gundam, which adds a pair of hardpoints to the Mobile Suit’s shoulders and replaces the Early Type Shoulder Cannon with an additional Beam Saber.

Weapons and Other Notable Attributes –

The Early Type Beam Rifle included with the HGGTO RX-78-02 Gundam is one of the earliest examples of a handheld beam weapon manufactured for Federation use. The Middle Type Beam Rifle is a familiar sight in the hands of the Grandaddy Gundam, as this would serve as the Mobile Suit’s primary weapon throughout most of the One Year War. This model also includes the iconic Hyper Bazooka, which utilizes white and gray plastic in its construction for a finished look right out of the box! Builders can attach one of these weapons to the HGGTO RX-78-02 Gundam’s back skirt when not in use.
