HGUC #14 AMX-011 Zaku III

The AMX-011 Zaku III is a Mobile Suit developed by Neo Zeon as the successor to the Principality of Zeon’s MS-06 Zaku II. The AMX-011 Zaku III features a simplistic, versatile design with the ability to utilize optional equipment packs to serve various combat roles. The AMX-011 Zaku III is approximately 33% larger than its predecessor and benefits from drastically improved power output and acceleration, showcasing the rapid advancements in Mobile Suit production discovered in the decade following the One Year War. The AMX-011 Zaku III design would compete against the AMX-014 Doven Wolf to determine Neo-Zeon’s mainstay mass production Mobile Suit. The AMX-011 Zaku III would ultimately lose this competition but saw a limited production run, making its first appearance during the Dublin Colony Drop Incident.

Included alongside the HG Zaku III for accessories:

  • Beam Rifle
  • Heat Bayonet
  • Beam Saber x2

The HG Zaku III borrows most of its construction from the previously released HGUC #003 Zaku III Custom, providing several hollow armor parts supported and an array of polycaps. This mass production version of the AMX-011 Zaku III utilizes one of the earliest examples of double-jointed limbs, providing a solid range of motion for builders to create dynamic poses. The Mobile Suit features articulated panels on its feet that builders can unfold to help the Zaku III maintain its stability.

Weapons and Other Notable Attributes

Bandai has faithfully recreated the Zaku III’s unique skirt-mounted Beam Cannons with unfolding handles to attach the Mobile Suit’s manipulators. The HG Zaku III includes a pair of Beam Sabers, each molded in a single gray plastic piece, leaving builders to paint the Beam Effects to their liking. The Mobile Suits Beam Rifle features a removable Heat Bayonet for last-minute close-quarters attacks. Builders can reposition the Mobile Suit’s Shoulder Shield thanks to the equipment’s clever polycap usage.

By implementing the technique of Top Coating, you can do a great deal to help preserve the longevity of your models. This process will protect the original plastic of your model kit and prepare it for any additional modeling techniques to follow.

You can drastically improve your results by making the details pop on the AMX-011 Zaku III with Panel Lining. The simplest solution for this is Gundam Markers or Tamiya Panel Line Fluid. If you’re up to a challenge making panel wash is always a great option too! It is always recommended to Topcoat with clear gloss beforehand, as some of the products commonly used for Panel Lining will degrade the untreated plastics over time.

Another way to keep adding detail is by applying Stickers/Marking DecalsTop Coating before application will help decals stick to the surface much better. Using Top Coat after application will help hide the seams on traditional sticker decals as well as waterslides. This additional step will also keep them from peeling over time. Using Decals is a great way to add an even greater level of detail to your scale models.
