The RX-160S Byarlant Custom is based on the Titan’s RX-160 Byarlant and features numerous upgrades made by Earth Federation. The Byarlant was one of the few Mobile Suits capable of sustained flight in-atmosphere without the need to transform into a Waverider, making it the perfect test bed for new technologies. The upgrades for the RX-160S Byarlant Custom include additional thrusters, new manipulators, and a visor-type sensor to replace the original Byarlant’s monoeye!

All of the weaponry for the RX-160S Byarlant Custom is built right into the Mobile Suit. But you will find an action base adapter and a pair of Beam Saber Blades to customize your model further.

Articulation –

The RX-160S Byarlant Custom is much larger than the average HGUC model kit. This 2012 release is a fully modernized model kit with a unique build to match its unique design. The backpack thrusters are fully posable and have opening hatches for displaying the RX-160S Byarlant Custom under heavy acceleration. Both segments of each arm articulate separately, and the manipulator will open and close too! This kit is an absolute must-have for anyone who can appreciate how much thought goes into engineering a model kit.


Weapons and Other Notable Attributes –

The two Beam Sabers mounted in the inner forearm of the RX-160S Byarlant Custom double as Mega Particle Cannons for the Mobile Suit’s Primary weapon. The Claw arms are not capable of wielding a weapon. They are, however, capable of crushing critical sections of an enemy Mobile Suit. The limited armaments and high development cost of the RX-160S Byarlant Custom are the primary reason it never saw mass-production use.

Tips and Tricks –

By implementing the technique of Top Coating, you can do a great deal to help preserve the longevity of your models. This process will protect the original plastic of your model kit and prepare it for any additional modeling techniques to follow.

You can drastically improve your results by making the details pop on the HGUC #147 RX-160S Byarlant Custom with Panel Lining. The simplest solution for this is Gundam Markers or Tamiya Panel Line Fluid. If you’re up to a challenge making panel wash is always a great option too! It is always recommended to Topcoat with clear gloss beforehand, as some of the products commonly used for Panel Lining will degrade the untreated plastics over time.

Another way to keep adding detail is by applying Stickers/Marking Decals. Top Coating before the application will help decals stick to the surface much better. Using Top Coat after application will help hide the seams on traditional sticker decals as well as waterslides. This additional step will also keep them from peeling over time. Using Decals is a great way to add an even greater level of detail to your scale models.
