The RX-78-2 Gundam is the furthest advancement of the Earth Federation’s Operation V initiative to create Mobile Suits powerful enough to defeat the Principality of Zeon’s army of Zaku Mobile Suits. The RX-78-2 Gundam Prototype was precisely the answer the Earth Federation was looking for, as it quickly proved itself as technologically superior to the mass production MS-06F Zaku II. The RX-78-2’s special Luna Titanium Alloy armor made it almost impervious to incoming ballistic fire without weighing down the Mobile Suit. At the time, the RX-78-2 was one of the most offensively capable Mobile Suits ever built, as its robust powerplant granted the RX-78-2 Gundam access to an array of beam-based weaponry. Before the RX-78-2 Gundam’s creation, beam weapons had only made their way onto the large space battleships used by the Earth Federation and Zeon. This Real Grade rendition of the RX-78-2 seeks to capture this iconic Mobile Suit as it may appear in the real world, embodying the excitement spawned from technological advances that may one day bring us a sixty-foot-tall mech suit.

Articulation –
As the first model in the Real Grade line, the RX-78-2 Gundam was one of the earliest Bandai models to utilize pre-molded inner frame pieces in its assembly. These parts combine hard and soft plastics to create large movable joint sections, to which builders apply additional frame pieces and armor over the pre-molded parts. The RG RX-78-2 Gundam uses almost twice as many pieces as its High Grade counterpart, providing much greater color accuracy on the 1/144 scale. This model also features a working Core Block System, which is quite a feat at this small scale. The instructions will have you build the RX-78-2 Gundam with the Core Block inside, with instructions to remove it and replace it with the transformed Core Fighter. Doing this conversion will sacrifice some articulation and stability, as the Core Block contains two ball joints meant to provide the model with dynamic torso movement.
Weapons and Other Notable Attributes –
The RG RX-78-2 Gundam includes everything you’d expect to find alongside the Grandaddy Gundam, including the Hyper Bazooka! The RX-78-2 Gundam’s accessories feature new designs loaded with surface detail while retaining the same general shape as the source material. These weapons feature the same intricate color separation as the RX-78-2 Gundam, providing some of the best-looking 1/144 scale weapons Bandai has ever made! Even the shield features four different colored plastics. The RX-78-2 Gundam includes four Beam Saber handles in total, two decorative handles attached to its backpack, and two hilts with protruding tabs that fit right into the hands of the RX-78-2 Gundam. You can store these Beam Sabers inside the shield alongside the Beam Rifle! You can also attach the Hyper Bazooka to the back skirt to create a fully armed RX-78-2 Gundam for your collection!
