The RX-178 Gundam MK-II is the second Mobile Suit in the lineage that started with the creation of the RX-78-2 Gundam during the One Year War and continued until UC 0088 with the introduction of the ORX-013 Gundam Mk-V. The RX-178 Gundam MK-II featured significant improvements to the previous design, streamlining the Mobile Suit for use within the Colonies. These improvements included a new “Movable Frame” concept, which increased maneuverability and power consumption. The MK-II also features less durable titanium alloy ceramic composite armor, further reducing the weight of the Mobile Suit. The Titans simplified the Gundam MK-II’s design in preparation for mass production, such as removing the onboard Vulcan Cannons. The Gundam MK-II proved valuable during its early deployment but quickly became outmatched by the advanced transformable Mobile Suits that characterized the Grypps War.

Articulation –
The Real Grade Gundam MK-II was one of the earliest Bandai models to utilize pre-molded inner frame pieces in its assembly. These parts combine hard and soft plastics to create large movable joint sections, to which builders apply additional frame pieces and armor over the pre-molded parts. The Gundam MK-II improves upon the previous renditions of the MS Joint System, featuring more frame pieces to support the dual molded joints. The Gundam MK-II features an excellent range of motion that benefits from the design’s lack of frills. The Gundam MK-II uses twice as many pieces as its High Grade counterpart, providing much greater color accuracy on the 1/144th scale. This color variant of the Gundam MK-II is the original scheme used by the Titans during their initial testing of the Mobile Suit.
Weapons and Other Notable Attributes –
The Gundam MK-II includes its own variation of the traditional Gundam loadout of Beam Rifle, Hyper Bazooka, Shield, and Beam Sabers. Each armament features updated designs loaded with surface detail without straying from the silhouette of the source material. These weapons feature the same excellent color separation as the Gundam MK-II, providing some of the best-looking 1/144 scale weapons Bandai has ever made! You can attach all of the Gundam MK-II’s weapons to the Mobile Suit when not in use, including the Beam Rifle! The included Vulcan Pods slot right onto the head for some added firepower, but this may reduce the head’s range of motion.
