Ver.ka MG FA-78 Full Armor Gundam (Gundam Thunderbolt)

The FA-78 Full Armor Gundam is a product of the Earth Federation’s FSWS Plan, which sought to improve the RX-78 platform with additional weapons and armor panels. The FA-78’s equipment improves the Mobile Suit’s firepower and maneuverability in space, making it the perfect addition to the struggling Moore Brotherhood Fleet. Like the rest of the Moore Brotherhood’s Mobile Suits, the FA-78 Full Armor Gundam had its joints modified with debris-proof material, as this Branch of the Federation operated in the wreckage of the Side 4 Colony now known as the Thunderbolt Sector. The FA-78 Full Armor Gundam made quick work of Zeon’s Living Dead Division in its initial appearance, forcing them to deploy their experimental MS-06R Zaku II High Mobility Type Psycho Zaku to combat the new threat.

Included alongside the MG Full Armor Gundam for accessories:

  • Twin Beam Rifle
  • Rocket Launcher
  • Shield x4
  • Beam Saber x2
  • Beam Saber Hilt
  • Action Base Adapter
  • Display Base

The MG FA-78 Full Armor Gundam features a complete inner frame with a functioning cockpit gimmick. The Mobile Suit retains the original RX-78-2’s Core Block System but utilizes an Emergency Pod instead of a Core Fighter. The model can be assembled without the Emergency Pod stored within the torso, allowing builders to display the equipment separately. The instructions will have you build the Gundam in the standard configuration, with additional instructions to assemble and attach the Full Armor System.

Weapons and Other Notable Attributes

The FA-78 Full Armor Gundam utilizes a Twin Beam Rifle attached to its right arm, similar to the one used by the FA-78-1 Full Armor Gundam Type A. The FA-78’s version features more sizable armor plating with the option to mount one Full Armor Gundam’s redesigned shields for additional defensive capabilities. The Backpack features two well-articulated sub-arms to wield two more shields, as seen in the OVA.

By implementing the technique of Top Coating, you can do a great deal to help preserve the longevity of your models. This process will protect the original plastic of your model kit and prepare it for any additional modeling techniques to follow.

You can drastically improve your results by making the details pop on the Full Armor Gundam with Panel Lining. The simplest solution for this is Gundam Markers or Tamiya Panel Line Fluid. Making your own panel wash is always a great option too! It is always recommended to Topcoat with clear gloss beforehand, as some of the products commonly used for Panel Lining will degrade the untreated plastics over time.

Another way to keep adding detail is by applying Stickers/Marking DecalsTop Coating before application will help decals stick to the surface much better. Using Top Coat after application will help hide the seams on traditional sticker decals as well as waterslides. This additional step will also keep them from peeling over time. Using Decals is a great way to add an even greater level of detail to your scale models.
